Leaf Foliage in the Ozark Mountains

Ozark post oak in fall colors
Leaf Photo 9 -  Post Oak
Some 32 different species of oak grow in the Ozarks. They can be hard to tell apart. There are two basic classifications - the red oaks and the white oaks. The red oaks all have leaves which have little bristles on the leaf lobe. White oaks all have leaf lobes with no bristles, such as what is shown here. Post oak leaves turn a deep rich chocolate or mahogany brown, or reddish brown.
