ATV Trails - Points 15, 29, 31, 34

Please Note! The Forest Service is adding more ATV authorized areas all the time. We will update this site as soon as we learn of more ATV use areas.

ATV Use - There are many areas you can run your ATV. In fact there are more places you CAN run than places you CAN'T run them. Look for a brown Carsonsite post that is about 5 inches wide, about 3 feet tall, and about 1/4 inch thick. (This is the low-budget sign the Forest Service has been reduced to using these days.) At the top of this thing will be a white sticker or a symbol. If the symbol shows an ATV in a red circle, with a diagonal line across the circle, this means NO ATV riding is allowed. If ATV riding is allowed, then the image of the ATV will NOT have the red slash through it. Many of the Back Country roads are authorized for ATV use. So are some of the horse trails. The hiking and mountain biking trails are off limits to ATV use. Almost all of the ATV trails are actually roads, or old road beds.

Illegal ATV Use - You may run across some well-used ATV trails. Be careful. Many people, either knowingly or unknowingly, run their ATVs for miles through the forest. Most of these trails are NOT authorized ATV use areas. If a ranger catches you on one of these trails, it's major ticket time! In certain areas the Forest Service is conducting experiments on living things - trees, plants, wildlife, or whatever. ATV's romping through their tests sites, and scaring their test critters away does not sit well with the rangers. Understandably so! On limited budgets, they don't have the resources to patch up a bunch of dumb mistakes. Please respect the lawful use of ATVs! If a few keep screwing it up, the use of ATVs can suddenly become extremely restricted, or eliminated all together.
