For Day Hikes Or Extended Overnight Back-Packing

The NSCT is great for day hikes. Park a car at the point where you want to come out, drive back in another car where you want to start, and you'll have a shuttle when you finish your hike. Many people park at a trailhead, walk a half-mile or so, then come back and hike in the opposite direction. This way they can hike without a shuttle.

The North Sylamore Creek Hiking Trail (NSCT) runs about 22 miles from Allison, Arkansas at Point 22 on the 2Cooleys map to the Cripple Turkey Road trailhead at Point 31. This is a beautiful trail with several trailheads along the way. The trail mostly weaves back and forth through the North Sylamore Creek basin. You'll experience a wide variety of sites along the way.

The trail starts at the Allison Trailhead then runs 4.7 miles to the trailhead at Blanchard Springs Caverns Recreation Area at Point 24 on our map. From Blanchard the trail runs 5.1 miles to Gunner Pool Recreation Area at Point 25. From Gunner the trail runs 4.1 miles to Barkshed Recreation Area at Point 26.

From Barkshed Recreation Area the trail runs 4.3 miles to Cole Fork Road. While you can also exit on Cole Fork Road, unless you have a high clearance vehicle, or a 4 wheel drive vehicle, we don't recommend using the Cole Fork Road trailhead. The road is not really suitable for regular cars. From Cole Fork Road the trail then runs another 4 miles up to the Cripple Turkey Road trailhead where it ends and meets up with the Ozark Highlands Trail
