County Road 72 and Crossroads Country Store

Road Names - Baxter CR-72, then Baxter CR-114. It's 3 miles to the White river.

New To Driving Back Roads? - Read Our Back Roading Tips

Where Does It Go?- To Unlimited Sportsman's Cabin and the Cartney Access to the White River.

What Is It Like? - The first couple of miles is along private property. After you cross the creek you are on National Forest land. This is a remote and pretty road, especially at the lower end. However you will need a high clearance vehicle.

Cartney White River Access - Past the store follow CR 72 about 1/2 mile and you come to a "T" intersection. CR 72 turns off to the left. Go straight. The road turns into CR 114. Follow CR 114 about two miles. You'll come to a creek that crosses the road in two places. EXCEPT during floods, drive right across the creeks. At the end of the road is a nice public boat launch ramp 3 miles from Hwy 341. It is pretty down here, a good place for a picnic. You can also bank fish for trout in the White River. At the first creek crossing you'll see a road on the left. This road makes a good place to walk in the woods for birding and photography. CR 114 dead ends at the White River.

High clearance vehicle recommended. There are two spots where you drive across the creek. The creek bottom is solid rock so you won't get stuck. The water is not deep, nor does it run strong unless flooding. The danger for low-clearance cars is that if not extremely careful you'll hit the bottom of your car and possibly damage it. This is why we recommend driving this road only if you have a high clearance high center vehicle. The first creek crossing is right after you pass Unlimited Sportsman's Cabin, which is a great little place to spend a few nights.

Crossroads Country Store, 755 Push Mountain Road, Norfork Arkansas. Call 870-499-3033. Gas and Food. Highway Diesel. A small store with just a few items, yet when you are thirsty and want a snack, or need gas, you can get it here. Open 7am to 5 or 6pm Monday through Friday, Saturdays 8am to 5pm, closed Sundays.
