Arkansas State Highway 14

The southern leg of our tour. Starts at Point 19 at the junction of Hwys 5, 9, and 14, and runs 16 miles to Point 28 where it meets Highway 341. From Point 19 to Point 24 Hwy 14 is part of the Sylamore Scenic Byway.

This road is smooth pavement and runs through a mixture of private homes, farm pastures, and the National Forest. Another very good road for fall foliage because you are so close to the trees in many spots along Hwy 14. You can buy gas and food in the little town of Fifty Six that is about a mile past the turn to Blanchard Springs Cavern Recreation Complex.

Highway 14 has the access to several of the features of the Sylamore Creek National Scenic River Corridor. The first is at Point 22, which is the beginning point for the North Sylamore Creek Hiking Trail (NSCT). Three more include Blanchard Springs Caverns Recreational Complex (Point 24), Gunner Pool Recreation Area (Point 25), and Barkshed Recreation Area (points 26 and 27). The NSCT runs for about 22 miles with six trailheads. Points 26 and 27 also provide excellent access to back country roads.

At Point 23 on Hwy 14 is the intersection of Hwy 14 and Highway 87, which a 10 mile fun and scenic connection to Mountain View.

Horse Trail access is down roads 1115 and 1112 from points 26.

Right near Point 27 is one of four liquor stores on our tour, Blanchard Liquor. The next liquor store is 8 miles down Hwy 14 at the junction of Hwy 14 and Hwy 263 where you can also buy gas and food.

At Point 28 you come to the intersection of Hwy 14 and Hwy 341 (aka Push Mountain Road).
