The Driving Tour By Highways, Clockwise Direction on Map

Arkansas State Highway 5

Starts at Point 1, and runs to Point 19 on the main tour loop. This is leg is 30 miles long. Hwy 5 continues on for another 5 miles to Point 20 if you take the Mountain View side trip. This is the eastern side of the main tour loop. From Point 10 to Point 19 it's also called the Sylamore Scenic Byway. The Byway segment on our map is shown in light purple.

Point 2 is technically on Highway 177, but 177 and 5 flow together as one road very nicely at the Y Store at Point 1.

Highway 5 is not quite as steep and does not wind around as much as Highway 341 on the west side of the tour. Highway 5 has the most scenic hill views, the most houses, and is the least remote of all the roads on the tour.

Highway 5 is the "civil amenities" part of the tour. This is where you'll find most of the gas stations, restaurants, stores, and necessities. The National Fish Hatchery, the Wolf Settlement, Village of Norfork, town of Calico Rock, and the Sylamore Shooting Ranges are all on Highway 5.

The Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail trailheads are found on Highway 5 at Points 16, 17, and 18. You can also hike these trails on foot. ATVs and horses are not allowed on the biking/hiking trails.

Access to back country dirt roads is at Points 11, 12, 15, and 18. Access to the White River is at Points 4, 7, 10, 13, and 19.

At Point 16 you can pull off the road and cool your feet in a pretty little creek that runs beside the road.
